Another distressing news story about a death after elective cosmetic surgery: a 39 year old former Miss Argentina died of complications following cosmetic surgery, this week.
It’s been two years since Donda West (mother of Kanye West) succumbed to complications after a cosmetic surgery procedure.
Are these deaths avoidable?
Legislative attempts to regulate safety are not always as helpful as intended.
The best way to avoid complications is to have a conscientious well trained Plastic Surgeon performing your cosmetic procedure. Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery remains the gold standard for documenting qualification as a plastic surgeon. Active membership in one or both of the world’s preeminent Plastic Surgery Societies is another qualifier: The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
In addition, in my practice we have our surgery suite certified by a national accreditation organization to verify that our operating room has the equipment and protocols to meet the highest standards of safety for our patients.
You deserve the highest best qualified and certified for your safe elective cosmetic procedure.
